The Chicago Student Refugee Coalition was invited to help Jordan Elementary students get excited for the new school year! We had a face-painting station, puppet-making area, soccer field, volleyball court, and more!
On June 18th, the CSRC hosted its first annual gala to commemorate our first year. Our amazing student leaders planned an event which helped raise over $20,000 for the organization.
On January 24, the CSRC was honored to host our first-ever Chicago Student Refugee Coalition Board Game Night. We hosted over 100 students at Jordan Elementary School for a night packed with games, dancing, and lasting memories. Our volunteers paired up with students to guide them through different games from Twister to Headbandz to Sorry!
On November 10, CSRC team members visited the British Int'l School in Chicago to present our mission and progress to a number of students. Through this presentation, we hoped to share our message of giving back to the community to the young students at the school. The CSRC hopes to empower all students to make a positive change in their home city.
The CSRC partnered with PlayIt4Ward to bring together students from different backgrounds and have them engage in sports, hoping to create a strong community among the Chicago youth! The event was held at Pottawatomie Park in the Rogers Park neighborhood and consisted of an athletic equipment and clothing donation drive for newcomer students, food, and sporting events for children ages 5-18!
September 29th, the CSRC was given the opportunity to welcome Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child to Jordan Community School. Throughout the event, members of our team provided the student population with art materials, helping over 200 kids paint and enjoy their time by expressing their creativity!
The CSRC was granted the opportunity to volunteer at their first ever Day of Dignity event, sponsored by Islamic Relief USA. Hosted at Sullivan High School on August 26, this is a day of service where volunteers have the opportunity to provide critical goods and services for the refugee community. We helped over 300 students be more prepared for the 2023 school year!
The CSRC spearheaded the event, in which our goal was to bring together members that share the same passion as us. Stories were shared highlighting the significance of assisting refugees. This event shed light on how we can profoundly influence the lives of student refugees in the Chicagoland area.
As the school season approaches, the demand for school supplies continues to increase. Help us make this school year easier for newcomers in our city by donating new or gently used school supplies to the CSRC or contributing to our fundraiser. All donations are greatly appreciated!
