On July 29th, 2025, the Chicago Student Refugee Coalition hosted our first annual “Movies in the Parks” to host an accessible outdoor movie screening for the community . The event took place after sunset, with families, friends, and neighbors gathering at the park to watch a two-hour, closed-captioned film. The closed captions ensured that individuals of all hearing abilities could fully participate. This collaboration provided opportunities for youth across Chicago to enjoy a movie outside, bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds to connect and relax. The event was filled with fun, food, drinks, glow-in-the-dark items, and, of course, an entertaining film (The Princess Bride).
The event took place from 8pm-10pm and was held at a Chicago Park District location (Juneway Beach Park). At the event, our organization handed out 100+ bottled waters, 90 Capri-Suns, 100+ bags of chips, Pirate’s Booty, popcorn, and 200+ glow-in-the-dark items. We are happy to say we handed out items to over 100 people (kids and their families)
CSRC volunteers distributing snacks, drinks, and glowsticks to attendees, helping create a fun, inclusive, and engaging community movie night experience.
