Chicago's Women's Literature Circle isn't just about discussing great books; it's about building a more connected city. This group of international women explores themes of feminism, social justice, and the immigrant experience through powerful reads. Their discussions have a real-world impact, as evidenced by the founding of the Chicago Student Refugee Coalition (CSRC).
When the Circle delved into "Refugee High," a book exploring real challenges faced by newcomer students at Sullivan High School in Chicago, the conversation sparked a fire. Inspired by the stories and the need for support, Sun Hee Yoon, the founder of the Circle, took action and connected with Sullivan. She recognized the importance of safe spaces for newcomer youth and the vital role of understanding their backgrounds, greatly supporting her daughter in creating the CSRC.
Join the Women's Literature Circle and be part of the conversation that creates change. Discuss, connect, and empower newcomers to build a stronger, more welcoming Chicago
